Hall effect thickness gauges are small, lightweight instruments designed to make quick, error free and repeatable measurements of non-magnetic materials such as plastics, glass and aluminium. The thickness of the wall can be measured by placing a small steel target such as a ball, disk or wire on one side of the test piece and a magnetic probe on its opposite side.
The Magna-Mike 8600 is a portable thickness gauge that uses a simple magnetic technique to make reliable and repeatable measurements of nonferrous materials. Operating the Magna-Mike is very simple. Measurements are made when the magnetic probe is held or scanned on one side of the test material and a small target ball (or disk or wire) is placed on the opposite side or dropped inside a container. The probe's hall effect sensor measures the distance between the probe tip and target ball. The measurements are instantly displayed on the large, coloured display as an easy-to-read digital thickness reading.
