Amidst the Second World War, on September 27, 1943, Mohan T Advani (MTA), aged 30, establishes Blue Star Engineering Company in Bombay with two employees, C H Krishnan (CHK) and Dattu, and a bank balance of just ₹2,000.  

The Company shifts to its first official address at Kala Ghoda, Bombay.

Mohan T Advani travels to the USA to obtain selling agencies for AC&R equipment. Melchoir Armstrong Dessau is the first of many such alliances. First branch opened in Chennai under CHK.   

• Worthington, the US leader in air conditioning, selects Blue Star as its India partner.
• Blue Star pioneers the manufacture of ice candy machines and bottle coolers.
• Central air conditioning system design and execution begins.

Design and manufacturing of water coolers begins.

The largest Blue Star central air conditioner installation, with a capacity of 180TR, installed at Shangrila Biscuit Factory in Bombay.

The first corporate office is established in the swanky new landmark, Kasturi Buildings, Churchgate, Bombay.

Acquisition of the Honeywell distributorship establishes the new Electronics and Instrumentation business.

Blue Star acquires distributorship of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) material testing machines. Air conditioning of Industry House, headquarters of the Birla Group in Bombay, completed successfully.

Tie-up with Perkin-Elmer, USA, strengthens the electronics agency business. Distribution of business machines of German Democratic Republic, including cash registers, calculating machines and data processing equipment begins.

Consolidated revenue crosses ₹1 crore.

Distribution of machine tools from the German Democratic Republic for industries, education and research begins.

Blue Star’s employee strength crosses 1,000, signifying the Company’s growth and commitment to expansion.

Blue Star celebrates its Silver Jubilee.

Blue Star is listed on the stock exchanges. Manufacturing operations move from a leaky bamboo shed in Colaba to its own factory in Thane.

• Air conditioning of the first three skyscrapers in Bombay – Air India Headquarters, Express Towers, and Oberoi Hotel – is entrusted to Blue Star.
• Hewlett-Packard (HP) distributorship commences, laying the foundation for the Company’s expansion into other areas of electronics.

• With the growing industrialisation in the Middle East in the mid-70s, Blue Star sets up a JV with Al Shirawi in Dubai.
• The Company executes air conditioning projects in Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia as well.

Range and volume of AC&R products expanded at the new Bharuch factory.

Long before the IT boom began, a software export unit is established at SEEPZ, Bombay.

Blue Star enters into technical collaboration with York International, USA, for manufacture of AC&R products.

Blue Star starts manufacturing centrifugal packaged chillers.

Total income crosses ₹100 crore.

Blue Star forms JV with Yokogawa, a world leader in process control instrumentation. Factory for electronics equipment built in Gandhinagar.

Blue Star becomes India’s largest central air conditioning company.

JVs are set up with Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Motorola for manufacturing electronic products, which add value to Blue Star’s global image and credibility.

• Blue Star celebrates its Golden Jubilee.
• Arab Malaysian Blue Star JV is formed in Malaysia for central air conditioning projects.
• The square outside Kasturi Buildings is named Mohan T. Advani Chowk in honour of Blue Star's founder.

A state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is set up in Dadra in collaboration with Rheem, USA, for AC&R products.

The year marks the start of export of air conditioning products to the UAE.

A highly productive, automated factory, spread across 16,000 sq.m., for split air conditioners, is set up in Himachal Pradesh.

Blue Star’s Professional Electronics and Industrial Systems business, which has been profitable for more than six decades, is spun off as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

Blue Star expands its product portfolio for the residential segment by introducing water purifiers, air purifiers and air coolers. Forays into professional kitchen refrigeration and healthcare refrigeration.

Blue Star is granted its first patent, for a unique vacuum breaker assembly developed by the R&D team. Blue Star sets up a wholly-owned subsidiary, Blue Star International FZCO, in Dubai Airport Freezone, UAE.

Blue Star appoints Virat Kohli as the Company’s first Brand Ambassador.

• The Company doubles its production capacity of deep freezers with a new world-class manufacturing facility at Wada.

• Blue Star crosses the revenue landmark of US $1 billion (₹8,000 crore).
• The wholly-owned subsidiary, Blue Star Climatech Limited, begins commercial production at its new automated and smart plant at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
